A Season for Giving: Why Personal Growth Starts from Within

A Season for Giving: Why Personal Growth Starts from Within

Why Personal Growth Starts from Within  There is something about the season of giving that makes us pause and think about what really matters.

For many people, this time of year brings family, celebrations, gratitude, and the opportunity to spend more time with the people who matter most. But it can also bring something deeper: an opportunity to look at ourselves, our relationships, our goals, and the life we are building.

For me, learning to appreciate that perspective was not always easy.

There was a time when seasons that were supposed to feel joyful felt completely different. Instead of excitement, I could feel disconnected, overwhelmed, or simply going through the motions.A

Over time, I began to understand that creating a better life isn’t always about changing everything around you.

Sometimes, the first change has to happen within you.

Allowing Yourself to Grow

Giving is often associated with money, gifts, time, or helping someone else.

But there is another form of giving that we don’t talk about enough: permitting yourself to grow.

That can mean giving yourself permission to ask bigger questions.

What do I really want?

What is holding me back?

Why do I keep repeating the same patterns?

What would my life and business look like if I stopped allowing old limitations to determine what I believe is possible?

These questions can be uncomfortable, but they can also open the door to meaningful change.

Today, much of my work with entrepreneurs and business owners centers around identifying the hidden barriers that can prevent people from reaching the next level. Through the SMT Method™, I focus on the connection between mindset, behavior, leadership, decision-making, and business growth.

The principle is simple: external growth often begins with an internal shift.

What Is Really Holding You Back?

Many entrepreneurs work extremely hard.

They invest more time.

They try new strategies.

They hire people.

They increase their marketing.

Yet sometimes the results don’t change as much as expected.

That can be frustrating.

But working harder isn’t always the answer.

A business can reach a point where its growth is affected by leadership bottlenecks, inefficient systems, unclear priorities, founder dependence, or patterns that influence how decisions are made. Joseph’s current business-growth work focuses on identifying these types of constraints and helping entrepreneurs build more sustainable businesses.

This is where asking bigger questions becomes important.

Instead of asking:

“How can I work harder?”

You might ask:

“What is actually preventing me from moving forward?”

That question can lead to a completely different conversation.

The Power of Your Thoughts

Our thoughts influence the way we see opportunities, challenges, relationships, and even ourselves.

When you constantly expect something to go wrong, you may approach situations differently than someone who expects an opportunity to learn or grow.

This doesn’t mean positive thinking magically solves every problem.

It means becoming more aware of the patterns that influence your decisions.

That awareness matters in business just as much as it does in life.

An entrepreneur may have a strong strategy but hesitate to execute it.

A leader may know what needs to change but continue doing things the old way.

A business owner may want growth while unconsciously holding onto systems that make growth difficult.

Recognizing those patterns is an important step toward changing them.

Giving Yourself Permission to Think Bigger

One of the ideas behind my earlier work was the importance of asking bigger questions and being willing to experiment with your own life.

That idea still matters.

You don’t have to accept that the way things have always been is the way they must remain.

You can question your assumptions.

You can examine your habits.

You can rethink your goals.

And you can decide what kind of business, career, relationships, and life you genuinely want to build.

For entrepreneurs, this becomes especially important when the business reaches a revenue plateau or begins demanding more time and energy than expected.

Sustainable growth isn’t simply about increasing revenue. It is also about building a business that can support your goals, your leadership, and the life you want outside of work.

Forgiveness, Self-Love and Personal Responsibility

Personal growth also requires being honest about the past.

That can include mistakes, disappointments, missed opportunities, difficult relationships, and decisions you wish you could change.

Holding onto those experiences can make it difficult to move forward.

Forgiveness doesn’t mean pretending something didn’t happen.

It means deciding that the past doesn’t have to control every decision you make in the future.

The same applies to self-love.

You can acknowledge where you need to improve without constantly criticizing yourself.

Real growth requires both honesty and self-compassion.

Create a Vision for the Life You Want

If you don’t have a clear idea of where you’re going, it’s difficult to know whether your current actions are taking you in the right direction.

What does success actually mean to you?

Is it more revenue?

More freedom?

More time with your family?

A stronger team?

A business that doesn’t depend on you every minute of the day?

More meaningful work?

For different people, the answer will be different.

That is why your vision has to be yours.

Joseph’s current coaching philosophy places significant emphasis on helping entrepreneurs identify what is holding them back, clarify their goals, strengthen leadership, and build systems that support sustainable growth.

What If You Treated Your Life Like an Experiment?

One of the ideas that inspired my earlier work was the concept of entering into an experiment rather than simply talking about change.

That idea still resonates.

Instead of spending another year saying:

“Someday I’ll…”

Try asking:

“What can I do differently today?”

Try a new approach.

Have the difficult conversation.

Set the goal.

Change the habit.

Ask for help.

Examine the belief that has been holding you back.

Then pay attention to what happens.

You don’t have to have every answer before you begin.

Sometimes clarity comes after you take the first step.

Giving Is Bigger Than a Gift

The season of giving can remind us that some of the most valuable things we can give aren’t things we can wrap.

We can give our time.

We can give encouragement.

We can give forgiveness.

We can give attention.

We can give someone an opportunity.

And perhaps just as importantly, we can allow ourselves to become better.

If you’re an entrepreneur or business owner, that may mean taking a serious look at what’s keeping your business from reaching its next level.

If you’ve reached a revenue ceiling, feel stuck in the day-to-day operation of your company, or find that working harder isn’t producing the growth you want, it may be time to look deeper.

That’s where business growth coaching can help you examine the systems, leadership, decisions, and internal patterns influencing your results. Joseph’s current work through the SMT Method™ is built around this connection between internal change and sustainable business growth.

Your Next Chapter Can Start With One Question

You don’t have to wait for a new year, a new business, or a perfect opportunity to begin making changes.

Start with a question.

What would become possible if you stopped allowing your current limitations to define your future?

Then permit yourself to explore the answer.

Your next level of growth may not begin with doing more.

It may begin with seeing differently, thinking differently, and choosing differently.

And sometimes, that is the greatest gift you can give yourself.
